![]() KAC-DFW Charter Night - August 30, 2004: With over 150 attendees and more than 15 community organizations representing local political, media and community leaders, including the Islamic, African-American, Hispanic and Asian communities, KAC-DFW's Charter Night was a wonderful success. Thank you to everyone who assisted us in reaching this important milestone in the history of our chapter. DFW Asian American Citizen's Council Annual Banquet - September 25, 2004: The annual banquet for the DFW Asian American Citizen's Council, which is composed of representatives from a myriad of Asian American communities, including, but not limited to, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and Indians. KAC National Convention in Washington, DC - September 23-26, 2004: The second annual convention for the Korean American Coalition, which provided an opportunity to meet with chapter members and distinguished proponents for the Korean American community from around the country. Asian American Forum Leadership Institute - October 2, 2004: A leadership forum provided by the Asian American Forum, which is dedicated to providing educational opportunities of interest and importance to the Asian American community. ![]() Voter Registration - July-October 2004: KAC-DFW made a concerted push to register Korean Americans and emphasize the importance of voting and community involvement with voter registration drives scheduled at multiple locations around the D/FW Metroplex, including at local Korean marketplaces, churches and community events. To date, KAC-DFW has registered over 500 persons. Additionally, KAC has translated the voter registration procedures and rules and provided them to local and statewide organizations to assist them in conducting voter registration drives on their own, which has led to increased voter registration among Korean Americans around the state. OCA Annual Picnic - October 17, 2004: The Organization of Chinese Americans invited KAC members to attend their Annual Picnic. With well over 100 people in attendance, this picnic provided us with the opportunity to meet and get to know many of the individuals associated with OCA who we will be working with on future events and issues of mutual interest between our communities. ![]() Early Voting Transportation - October 23, 2004: In order to promote early voting and to assist those individuals that had difficulty voting otherwise, KAC-DFW members transported people to the polls and guided them through the voting process and the proper use of voting machines from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM at various locations in Dallas and Denton County. Asian American Corporate Exchange Mixer - October 29, 2004: KAC-DFW members were invited to attend a mixer with other Asian American professional organizations from the D/FW Metroplex. The Mixer was held from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Trammell & Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art Museum, which is located at 2010 Flora St., Dallas, TX 75201. Southern Methodist University Asiamerican Alumni Associates Homecoming Happy Hour - November 5, 2004: All interested KAC members were invited to attend this event, which was held from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Spike Tapas Restaurant & Lounge, located at 5121 E. Mockingbird Lane (Mockingbird Station). Unity & Diversity Appreciation and Mixer Night - November 5, 2004: All interested KAC members were invited to attend this event being hosted by the Asian Pacific Islander Employee Resource Group with American Airlines. The event was held from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the Sterling Hotel, located at 1055 Regal Row, Dallas, Texas 75247. KAC Regular Meeting - November 8, 2004: Judge Brenda Rhoades, the only federally appointed Asian American and Korean American judge, spoke to us regarding bankruptcy issues and issues of concern for the Korean American community. This session was geared toward bankruptcy issues involving individuals. All members of the Korean American Community were invited to attend. "Meet and Greet" KAC Members attending the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association's Annual Convention - November 13, 2004: With the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association's Annual Convention being scheduled to take place in Dallas, Texas this year, we had a great opportunity to meet with other KAC chapter members from around the country as well as other distinguished attendees to the NAPABA Convention. KAC-DFW planned and hosted a meet and greet session for Saturday afternoon and had the opportunity to meet with many distinguished and prominent KAC members and Asian American attorneys who were in attendance. The "Meet and Greet" Reception was held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Fairmont Dallas located at 1717 N. Akard Street, Dallas, Texas 75201. KAC Regular Meeting - November 29, 2004: Judge Brenda Rhoades, the only federally appointed Asian American and Korean American judge, spoke to us a second time regarding bankruptcy issues and issues of concern for the Korean American community. However, this session focused on bankruptcy issues for businesses. All members of the Korean American Community were invited to attend. KAC-DFW Board Meeting - December 6, 2004: The meeting was open to all members and was also attended by the Board of OCA (Organization of Chinese Americans). Asian Live TV attended and provided us with a presentation regarding their organization and their desire to work with us as their primary source for news regarding the Korean American community. National APIAVote Debrief Session - December 11-12, 2005: National APIA Voter Debrief was held in Washington, DC. As a major contributor to voter registration efforts in the past presidential election, KAC-DFW was invited to attend the Debrief Session. For more information, visit www.apiavote.org. Dallas Korean Entrepreneurs Banquet - December 19, 2004: KAC-DFW members attended the Dallas Korean Entrepreneurs Banquet and assisted with English-speaking attendees. Additionally, KAC¡¯s newest intern, Kathy Hong, was awarded an academic scholarship toward her studies at the banquet. KAC-DFW Year-End Potluck/KAC Regular Meeting - December 20, 2004: Thank you for a great year! KAC-DFW is holding a holiday potluck dinner and we invite you to bring your families to join us as we review our accomplishments for the year, discuss our plans for the 2005 calendar year and take some time to get to know each other. KAC-DFW will also meet with its Board of Advisors. Dallas Korean Society Annual Banquet - December 28, 2004: KAC-DFW members attended the Dallas Korean Society¡¯s Annual Banquet. The Dallas Korean Society was kind enough to introduce our officers and board members to the attending community and our purpose and mission were discussed at length. City of Dallas - December 30, 2004: KAC-DFW members met with City of Dallas officials to negotiate and address problems with an intersection in the heart of the Korean business district. This meeting led to timely changes, included improvements to the intersection and provided the Korean community with a timeline for a final resolution to the traffic accidents and problems experienced at this particular intersection. |
