KAC Regular Meeting - January 10, 2006: KAC held its regular monthly meeting and discussed upcoming events and plans for the new year. OCA Lunar New Year Banquet - January 28, 2006: KAC-DFW members attended the Organization of Chinese American's Lunar New Year Banquet and rang in the lunar new year with a wide variety of performances and an opportunity to meet many of OCA's and other organization's members. ACP Lunar New Year Festival - January 29, 2006: KAC-DFW members attended the Asian Chinese Professional's Lunar New Year Banquet, which was held at the Trammell Crow Museum of Asian Art. The festival featured a variety of activities included board games, paper and clay art, handwriting, dancing, martial arts and much more. KAC Regular Meeting - February 7, 2006: KAC held its regular monthly meeting and discussed plans regarding the upcoming elections, as well as the KAC Spring conference and National Convention. DATDA Meeting - February 13, 2006: DATDA held its first meeting of the year in order to discuss issues for the upcoming year, including organizational needs and the addition of signs along I-35 that would announce the presence of the Asian Trade District. ACDPU Meeting - February 17, 2006: ACDPU held its first meeting of the year and heard from two guest pastors regarding their missionary work in North Korea. Additionally, plans regarding the Summer conference in Seoul (May 1-4) were discussed. Evening with Howard Halm - February 22, 2006: KAC-DFW officers/members were able to meet with Howard Halm, KAC-National Board Chair and discussed issues regarding KAC-National and its chapters and plans for the future, including the KAC Spring conference and National Convention. AAJA Legacy Awards - March 11, 2006: KAC members weren invited to attend the Asian American Journalists Association Legacy Awards, which celebrates the accomplishments of outstanding Asian Americans whose exemplary achievements have changed the world we live in and inspired future generations. This year's award recipients included Angela Oh, civil rights activist. As a community lawyer, Oh's work during the 1992 riots in Los Angeles gave Koreans a voice. Oh was appointed to the President's Initiative on Race in 1997. KAC Regular Meeting - March 14, 2006: KAC held its regular monthly meeting and had the opportunity to visit with members of the Lambda Phi Epsilon fraternity colony at the University of Texas at Dallas. In addition, we reviewed current and upcoming projects, as well as potential partnerships with American Airlines, the City of Dallas and the Department of Health and Human Services. KAC Elections Efforts 2006: KAC is working with the Elections Department to provide sample ballots and signage in Korean at all voting locations for future elections. In addition, KAC intends to work with DFW-AACC in roder to be able to provide sample ballots and signage in Vietnamese and Chinese. Additionally, we are working creating designated voting locations for each of our communities. These locations will be staffed with bilingual elections staffers for all future elections. KAC National Conference - March 30-April 2, 2006: The KAC National Conference was hosted by KAC - Orange County this year and was held at the Hyatt Regency Orange County in Garden Grove, California. 2006 Carrollton Candidate Forum - April 10, 2006: KAC-DFW, in conjunction with DFW-AACC, once again held a candidate forum for city council candidates for the City of Carrollton. ADDAD Inauaguration Banquet - May 8, 2006: KAC-DFW members joined the Asian District Development Association of Dallas for their Inauguration Banquet. KAC-DFW looks forward to working with ADDAD (formerly DATDA) on issues of interest to the Dallas Asian District, including tranportation, crime and economic development issues. KAC Monthly Meeting - May 9, 2006: KAC-DFW held its regular monthly meeting and reviewed numerous outstanding issues, including the Royal Lane/Emerald intersection, foreign language driver license examinations, the upcoming elections and annual banquet, the National Convention and various other issues of concern. KAC Meeting with Office of Senator John Cornyn - May 24, 2006: KAC-DFW members met with the Office of Senator John Cornyn in order to discuss ways to increase the voice of the Korean American community and to seek out greater levels of communication and access to Senator Cornyn's office. KAC Meeting with Hyepin Im - May 27, 2006: KAC-DFW members met with Ms. Hyepin Im, President of Korean Churches for Community Development (KCCD) in order to discuss various issues regarding both KAC and KCCD and possible avenues of collaboration. KAC Monthly Meeting - June 13, 2006: KAC-DFW met and discussed ongoing projects, the upcoming elections and annual banquet, as well as plans for the National Convention. Afterward, we watched the NBA Playoffs showcasing our hometown Dallas Mavericks. ADDAD Meeting - June 27, 2006: ADDAD held is second board meeting in order to discuss the possibility of an Asian Business District Directory and the establishment of a PID. KAC Monthly Meeting - July 18,2006: KAC-DFW met to discuss our planning for the annual banquet and National Convention, as well as to hold our annual elections. LWV CC Meeting - July 25, 2006: KAC-DFW met with the League of Women Voters and various other area organization representatives in order to discuss the creation of the League of Women Voters Community Coalition, which would allow us to coordinate our voter registration efforts jointly. The LWV CC would work with DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) in order to provide voter registration at various area DART transit stations. ADDAD Meeting - August 1, 2006: ADDAD held it third board meeting regarding ongoing projects for the Asian Business District. Asian Film Festival of Dallas - August 3-10, 2006: KAC-DFW members attended various events, receptions, films in conjunction with the Asian Film Festival of Dallas, which provides an opportunity to preview Asian cinema and meet with other Asian constituent organizations in a more relaxed setting. KAC Monthly Meeting - August 8, 2006: KAC-DFW met and discussed ongoing projects, including the upcoming banquet, its partnership with the League of Women Voters and DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) in the League of Women Voters Community Coalition to coordinate voter registration efforts for the Fall elections, the KAC National Convention, the Asian Community Center and various other projects. KAC 3rd Annual Awareness Banquet - August 26, 2006: KAC-DFW held its third annual banquet and welcomed the Korean consul general as its keynote speaker. Budweiser sponsored the VIP reception and we were able to introduce our executive staff to over 150 key community leaders from around the DFW metroplex. |
