KAC Regular Meeting - January 18, 2005: Bruce Sherbet, Dallas County Elections Administrator, attended and provided a review of the voting patterns and trends over previous elections, as well as the statistics for the past Presidential election. Additionally, the meeting provided an opportunity for members to become registered as Deputy Voter Registrars for Dallas County. OCA Lunar New Year Banquet - January 22, 2005: KAC-DFW members attended OCA's Lunar New Year Banquet and rang in the lunar new year with a wide variety of performances and an opportunity to meet many of OCA's and other organization's members. DFW AACC Tsunami Relief Banquet - February 3, 2005: KAC-DFW was a sponsor for the Tsunami Relief Banquet, which gathered funds from the various communities in the DFW Metroplex to provide to the American Red Cross. Asian Live TV Launch Party - February 3, 2005: KAC-DFW members were invited to attend the Launch Party for the DFW Metroplex's newest media group. Asian Live TV will focus on covering Asian events throughout the DFW Metroplex and providing an Asian perspective to the news. ![]() Asian American Corporate Exchange Mixer - February 4, 2005: KAC-DFW members were invited to attend a mixer with other Asian American professional organizations from the DFW Metroplex. The Mixer was sponsored by Deloitte and was held at the Trammell & Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art Museum, which is located at 2010 Flora St., Dallas, TX 75201. KAC Regular Meeting - February 15, 2005: KAC-DFW met with the CEO of Essence Homehealth, who reviewed their services and discussed their plans, as well as layed out what to expect, for the health tests that they would be providing at the upcoming senior citizens' meeting. Dallas Korean Society Meeting - February 15, 2005: KAC-DFW attended a meeting hosted by the Dallas Korean Society, which allowed KAC-DFW to introduce itself to members of the Korean community, as well as provided many of our members the opportunity to meet with and speak to the guest speaker for the meeting, the Consul General of the Korean Consulate in Houston. ![]() Heart and Health Check - February 19, 2005: KAC arranged with Essence Home Health to provide free health tests at the Korean Senior Citizens' regular meeting. Between 150-200 persons received testing and Essence Home Health will follow up with individuals who may need to seek additional medical attention. KAC Regular Meeting - March 15, 2005: KAC-DFW held its regular monthly meeting and reviewed its current projects, as well as discussed and finalized details of the 2005 Spring Forum. KAC Spring Forum - March 19, 2005: KAC-DFW held its Spring Forum, which highlighted race relations between minority groups, the significance of Sa-I-Gu (LA Riots) and the need for our communities to work together to support each other. We collaborated with the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA), League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in order to provide a dynamic educational program. Carrollton Candidate Forum - April 12, 2005: KAC-DFW and DFW AACC held a Candidate Forum for candidates running for City Council and Mayor for the City of Carrollton. Nine of the eleven candidates attended the forum and a tenth candidate was spoken for by a personal representative. Many Korean and Asian community leaders were present and the forum provided the opportunity for the candidates to introduce themselves to the Korean and Asian communities, as well as allowed for question and answer sessions with all of the candidates. A great variety of issues and concerns were raised and discussed during the forum, which we hope will lead to greater outreach toward the Korean and Asian American communities. Korean Senior Citizens' Meeting - April 16, 2005: KAC-DFW arranged for Bruce Sherbet, Dallas County Elections Administrator, to provide a voting machine/equipment demonstration at the Korean Senior Citizens' Meeting. Mr. Sherbet's presentation was provided in both English and Korean. Strong Mayor Forum - April 19, 2005: KAC-DFW arranged to hold a debate on the strong mayor issue. Keith Kwoh, Strong Mayor Steering Committee (pro-strong mayor) and Ky H. Ninh, Vice Chairman, Vietnamese-American Public Affairs Committee (anti-strong mayor) spoke regarding the issue and answered questions about the impact of having a strong mayor. KAC provided a translator to translate their statements into Korean. KAC Political Forum - April 29 - May 1, 2005: KAC National held a political networking forum in Los Angeles in order to convene and coordinate with all Korean American politicians in the United States that have been elected or appointed, as well as all Korean Americans who have run for office or who intend to seek office. Many elected and appointed officials were in attendance from Hawaii, Virginia, Michigan and many other states. Early Voting Transportation - April 30, 2005: KAC-DFW met at the Korean Senior Citizens' Center in order to assist people in getting to the early voting polls and to walk people through the voting process. New Members Reception & Dinner - May 10, 2005: KAC-DFW held a reception and dinner for persons who were interested in joining KAC-DFW or just learning more about what KAC-DFW does. Attendees had the opportunity to hear an update on KAC-DFW's activities during the year, review a news archive of KAC-DFW related articles collected over the past year and also were able to see photos from the KAC Political Forum. Asian Festival - May 14, 2005: KAC-DFW was a part of the annual Asian Festival, hosted by the Greater Dallas Asian American Chamber of Commerce. This festival brings together upwards of 15,000 attendees and is held in the arts district in downtown Dallas. KAC-DFW arranged to have a booth and provided voter registration opportunities, as well as distributed information for potential new members. Korean Senior Citizens Meeting - May 21, 2005: KAC-DFW assisted in facilitating a meeting between Lowell Cannaday, who is running for City Council in the City of Irving, and the Korean senior citizens. KAC-DFW provided translation services for the meeting. City of Dallas Public Meeting - June 2, 2005: KAC-DFW has been working with the City of Dallas with respect to the Royal/Emerald intersection, which is in the heart of the Korean business district. This intersection has been the site of many accidents. At this time, KAC-DFW and the City of Dallas are supporting a measure to make the southern portion of Emerald into a one-way street with traffic moving only southbound. KAC-DFW and the City met with Korean business owners and other interested members of the community at a public meeting to learn about and discuss these plans. City of Irving Runoff Election Transportation - June 4, 2005: KAC-DFW provided transportation for persons needing assistance in reaching the polls, as well as translating instructions for persons desiring to vote. KAC Regular Meeting - June 14, 2005: KAC-DFW held its regular monthly meeting and reviewed its past activities, as well as its future plans, including the upcoming KAC Elections, KAC Night with Ms. Hyepin Im and the Second Annual Awareness Banquet. KAC Night with Ms. Hyepin Im - June 23, 2005: KAC-DFW arranged for Ms. Hyepin Im, President and Founder of Korean Churches for Community Development (KCCD), to return to Dallas to meet with community and church representatives. Ms. Im spoke at length about many of the programs that KCCD offers at the KAC-DFW Spring Forum in March 2005 and due to the overwhelmingly positive response, we arranged for her to meet with the DFW community a second time in order to outline the many programs that KCCD provides, as well as to provide information on how to institute similar programs in the DFW community. Dallas Asian Business District Task Force - July 11, 2005: KAC-DFW had its first meeting with Dallas City officials, the Dallas Police Department and City Council Members Steve Salazar and Bill Blaydes to create a Task Force that would be capable of raising issues from the Korean Business District directly to the City Council. City Council Member Linda Koop will also serve on the Task Force. KAC Executive Staff Elections - July 12, 2005: KAC-DFW held its election for new officers/board members for the 2005-2006 fiscal year and new executive staff will be sworn in and introduced to the public at our Annual Banquet. Opening of International Terminal D at DFW Airport - July 23, 2005: As part of the grand opening of the newest terminal, several flights arrived on this date, including a Korean Air flight. KAC-DFW arranged for a drum/music performance and volunteers to greet visitors and the passengers of the Korean Air flight. Afterward, all of the participants voluntarily chose to stay on and cheer on some troops from Iraq who had just returned home. The troops were very appreciative of the warm welcome and KAC was very honored to be a part of this wonderful occasion. KAC Second Annual Awareness Banquet - August 6, 2005: At this banquet, KAC-DFW provided an educational presentation in order to increase community awareness, as well as installed new officers and board members, recognized our 2005 sponsors, reviewed our accomplishments over the past year and outlined goals for the upcoming year. In addition, we were honored to hear from Dr. Han Shik Park, the nation's foremost expert on North Korea, regarding his insights and predictions for the relationship between North Korea, South Korea and the United States. KAC Regular Meeting - August 9, 2005: KAC held its regular monthly meeting, which included a wrapup session regarding our Annual Banquet and review of our upcoming activities and plans for the remainder of the 2005 calendar year. Dallas Asian Trade District Task Force - August 15, 2005: KAC took part in the second organizational meeting for the Dallas Asian Trade District Task Force. City Council Member Steve Salazar presided. Women's Business Symposium - August 17, 2005: Shinae Chun, Director of the Women's Bureau of the Department of Labor (and the highest ranking Korean American in the Bush administration) spoke at the Arlington Convention Center. Korean Senior Citizens Association Meeting - August 20, 2005: KAC arranged for a presentation from Chris Beach during the regular monthly meeting of the Korean Senior Citizens Association. Mr. Beach provided information on Medicare (specifically some of the recent changes with regard to Medicare this year). DFW-AACC Annual Banquet - September 10, 2005: KAC was honored to join DFW-AACC during their Annual Banquet and was recognized as the community service organization of the year. As a big supporter of KAC and an organization which we collaborated with on several events during our first year, we hope to continue to work together with DFW-AACC on a variety of activities over the course of the next year. Dallas Asian Trade District Association - September 12, 2005: KAC took part in the third organizational meeting for the Dallas Asian Trade District Association. At this meeting, the bylaws were reviewed and attendees were asked to provide nominations for board members and officers to be elected at the next meeting. KAC Regular Meeting - September 13, 2005: KAC held its regular monthly meeting and discussed upcoming plans for the fall election and attendance at the KAC National Convention. KAC National Convention - September 23-25, 2005: KAC held its Third Annual National Convention in Denver, Colorado. We were excited to have the National Convention come to the central United States and had a strong contingent attend this year. KAC Regular Meeting - October 11, 2005: KAC held its regular monthly meeting and announced plans for an APA Hurricane Resource Fair. Dallas Asian Trade District Association - October 11, 2005: KAC took part in the fourth organizational meeting for the Dallas Asian Trade District Association. At this meeting, the bylaws were finalized and board members and officers were elected. KAC Regular Meeting - November 8, 2005: KAC held its regular monthly meeting and discussed plans regarding the upcoming APA Hurricane Resource Fair. ACDPU Symposium - November 8, 2005: KAC participated in the ACDPU (Advisory Council on Democratic and Peaceful Unification of Korea) Symposium with KAC members Chong Choe and Tina Yoo speaking at the Symposium. APA Hurricane Resource Fair - November 12, 2005: KAC coordinated with various federal and state agencies in order to provide information and assistance to Asian Americans who were affected by Hurricanes Rita and Katrina. This fair gathered together numerous agencies and provided translators for Asian Americans who needed assistance so that they could understand what resources are available to them and so that they could apply for assistance with the various agencies. Greater Dallas Korean Chamber of Commerce Holiday Party - December 13, 2005: KAC members attended and assisted with the Greater Dallas Korean Chamber of Commerce Holiday Party. This event provided a great opportunity to network with Korean American professionals in the community. KAC Christmas Party - December 22, 2005: KAC held its annual Christmas Party, which provided an opportunity to meet with members and our special guests in a casual atmosphere. |
